The plan: Get up around 8, have coffee, put on running clothes, head over to the apartment, fill the car, get running shoes and the Garmin, come back, run, unpack the car, make biscotti, go back to the apartment, fill the car, have acupuncture, come home.

The execution: Get up around 8, have coffee. Put on sweats (it was COLD), head over to the apartment. Wander the place looking at ALL THE STUFF that’s left, start packing the car, decide that for my own peace of mind I have to finish the bathroom, spend the next 3 hours finishing the bathroom. Then, decide to shower and go to lunch at Kiss Cafe (right down the street), come back, and tackle the kitchen. Scrub the stove, clean the cabinets, scour the sink, clean the window, and clean out the crap that falls between the stove and the counter (in that LITTLE TINY sliver of a crack between the counter and the stove. Ugh. I did get to acupuncture and after all of the scrubbing and bending and lifting, the needles really knocked me for a loop.

On the plus side, the kitchen is just about done and the bathroom is done. Tomorrow I want to get the apartment to the point where it doesn’t look filthy. They will likely start showing it soon to prospective renters and I want it to at least look presentable.

We’ve slept at the new house for 3 nights now. However, it wasn’t until last night that the house finally felt like home. What made the difference? Oddly, it was walking around the main floor barefoot. Yeah. I know. Weird. However that was what did it.

I spent the evening largely alone last night. John went to the apartment to do some packing and apply for some jobs (since we have no Internet at the new house yet, but we still do at the apartment), and I opened a bottle of wine, read a book, blogged at Cook Local and took a bath.

I’ve missed having a bathtub. I haven’t taken a bath in over 3 years. It was wonderful. Of course, no tub is deep enough ever and I’d so much love to have a tub where my entire body (well, other than my head) would be submerged, but heck, at least having a tub is a great thing.

So now the house feels like home. Now, if only we could stop moving stuff into the house. I’m happy with the amount of stuff that’s there now. We can stop moving stuff in. Well, other than the wine that’s left at the apartment. And the DVDs. And… ok, I guess we need the rest of our stuff.

Tonight I get to try cooking something on the antique stove. That should be interesting.

No new pictures yet. Maybe tomorrow.

In a little over 10 hours, the movers show up. Tomorrow night, we’ll live somewhere else. Well, mostly anyway. We’ve only packed up about half the apartment (and haven’t even touched the storage unit). We’re moving in pieces. The movers come tomorrow and they’ll move all of the furniture. After that, we will essentially be living CIMG3789there, albeit without all of our stuff. But we’ll keep moving all day tomorrow, and Sunday, and most evenings next week. Hopefully by next weekend we’ll be mostly done clearing out the apartment and will move onto cleaning.

I took another couple of pictures today when I took a carload over.

Here are those stairs. I know, not very interesting. However, they will be what tires us out the most over the next few days I’ll bet.

Next is a picture of our very old stove. This should be interesting. I’ve only used a gas stove for a couple of months, and not in about 10 years. Not to mention that this stove is really old. You actually have to light the burners with a match every time (we’ve got one of those little gun style lighters).

That’s it for tonight. We won’t have a lot of Internet access over the next few days. We’ll be operating off of our cell phones’ data connections, so while we’ll have email, Twitter, and IM, it’ll be slow. Unfortunately Comcast is very backed up and they can’t get to our installation until next Thursday. Ugh. Unfortunately that means that if John gets a call for work in the middle of the night, he’s going to have to drive BACK to the apartment to do work.

So cross your fingers that he doesn’t get any calls.

Yeah, I know that’s a stupid statement. If it were easy, then professional movers wouldn’t have a job. But damn. I’m tired of moving and we haven’t even moved the furniture yet. I took two trips over to the house today with the car mostly packed full each time.

Our new house has stairs (I’ll take a picture of them tomorrow). This is fine as it gives us more space, but it  makes moving a little harder. I’m not coordinated enough to carry a heavy box down the stairs. So a lot of what I moved today is just sitting in the living room. Hopefully John can go over tomorrow and move the boxes downstairs before he goes to work. Rinse, repeat for tomorrow.

The good news is that we’ve cleaned out an entire corner of the CIMG3784bedroom. The bad news is that it’s only one corner of the bedroom. Hopefully I’ll get three or four trips in tomorrow. The main thing that we need to do before 7am Saturday is make sure that all of the things that the movers are going to move are easily accessible.

So far there’s still A LOT of crap in the way. Hopefully that will change dramatically tomorrow.

To keep you appeased for another day, this is a picture of what the stove area will (hopefully) look like once the handyman reinforces the shelf. After I took that picture I realized it wasn’t quite sturdy enough for all of the cookbooks we have.

More pictures tomorrow.

Many people have asked for pictures and I haven’t taken very many yet. But here’s one picture to hold you over.

Moving

Moving is hard. It’s only been two days and already I’m exhausted. Of course, the 4 mile run and workout video I did yesterday didn’t help. We’ve got a lot of stuff. So much that it is almost overwhelming. The DVDs alone take up more than the entire trunk of the car (the Camry, not the Smart).

But we’ll get it done, a little at a time.

We’ll post some pictures soon, but here’s one to tide y’all over. CIMG3744 Note: The house behind us is not ours. Ours is actually in front of where we’re standing. And yes, John is actually wearing pants in this picture.
