  1. We just picked up our bibs for tomorrow’s half marathon and a number of our friends (ok, that number would be one) asked if they could track us somehow on the run.  One of the cool little applications John has on his google phone is a GPS tracker that will allow you to track us.  So, he’s going to carry the phone while we run, and you can follow us (hopefully) at http://www.instamapper.com/ext?key=6207536769144993735. We start running at just about 730a pacific time (that’ll be 1030a for those of you on the east coast), so feel free to watch.
  2. Speaking of the google phone, John and I are about 80% of the way through writing a tech book on the Google phone.  If you’re curious, click on through and buy it.
  3. We put in an offer on a house. Offer has been accepted. Now, we wait for the survey.

(largely copied from John’s blog)

If you know us, you know we’ve been searching for a house for quite a few months now.

We’re suddenly faced with four houses that, as opposed to the ones previous that had 1 or 2 big obstacle, all have 1 or 2 little obstacles we (think) we can deal with.

So we are looking for opinions:

House #1:  Wallingford

House #2:  Ballard

House #3:  Greenwood

House #4:  Columbia City

We want to know if anyone has any opinion on any of these houses.  We have reasons for loving all of these, and they are all different reasons.  Ping me one-on-one and I can break down the reasons for each, but I’ll let you just think on what you see first.

Just a quick note. John and I have been spending a lot of time working on Cook Local. We’re doing some minor advertising with Google Ads, and possibly more importantly, we’ve added a Digg link to all of the posts. This is a great way to increase the visibility of our posts to the rest of the world. So please, if you like the things we do over at Cook Local, consider taking a few minutes to create an account over at Digg.com and then when you read our posts, click that little DIGG this! text at the top of the post and submit the post. You can also use Stumble Upon for the same type of functionality. Over the next few weeks, I’ll probably add one of those links as well.

If you use Google Reader to view our posts, consider sharing those posts! If you share a post in Google Reader, your friends can see it too.

We’re also twittering at www.twitter.com/cooklocal. We’re not one of those annoying blogs that JUST twitters blog posts (though we do that occasionally). We often twitter things that we find that are exciting at the farmers markets, or twitter on local food policy or news.

If you’ve got suggestions for how we can make Cook Local better, please feel free to email us. There’s even a Contact Us link right on the home page!

I am not sure I even believe it.

I just took a deep breath and I think it might have been my first in about 5 hours.

A McCain/Palin presidency (and any possibility of Palin being anywhere near the White House or the Supreme Court nomination process when judges retires) terrified me.

Now if only we can get a NO on Prop 8 in California…

John has run out to get dinner so I have a few minutes to myself to process this historic vote. I’ve been indescribably nervous all afternoon. I have never been so terrified of a political team than I was of McCain/Palin (mostly terrified of Palin of course, but not happy with McCain either). I have never wanted a candidate to win more than I wanted Obama to win.

I cannot wait to see how this country changes and progresses under an Obama Presidency. I’m sure there will be aspects of Obama’s presidency I don’t like. I cannot imagine ever agreeing with a political candidate 100% (since I never plan on running for office). However, I feel hopeful about the future of this country.

Looking forward to hearing President-Elect Obama’s speech.

It is very likely I’ll end up in tears tonight. Hopefully tears of relief and happiness. I’ve never cared more about an election. Why? Well, several reasons, but the one I’ll get into right now (I need wine so I’ll blog more later) is this:

This is the first election I feel like I have formed my own beliefs on who to vote for and why.

My immediate family is Republican. My ex-husband was Republican. I let myself be influenced by them without taking the time to form my own strong opinions. I had weak opinions (even voted for Kerry in 2004), but never really took the time or the effort to define my own opinions and be willing to stand up for them and fight for them.

Watching the results tonight – well, let’s just say that I can feel the lump in my throat getting bigger with every Obama vote counted.
