I’ve been pretty distracted the past week or so. Last week, one of Wingnut’s eyes turned all glassy. This wasn’t a standard eye infection, and of course, anything that makes little kitties sick and unhappy is not good. So I took him to the vet last week, expecting some eye drops and then all hell broke loose. To make a long story short, the vet said that the way the eye looked, there were several possibilities, three of which were VERY VERY BAD. One of which was so bad that if it was the case, he’d be terminal and there would be nothing we could do.
Obviously, this really hit both of us hard. Poor little guy is only 6 months old. So the vet took blood, ran tests, and more tests.
Many hours (and tears) later, we’ve mostly ruled out the very deadly disease. There’s no difinitive test for FIP (which is the very deadly disease), but there are indicators that were negative in Wingnut. It’s not feline leukemia or FIV (another immune disease). It is still possible that it could be a different type of infection and there is one more test that we had sent out that won’t be back for another week.
Wingnut is at least very happy and playful, and his eye has started to look better than it did when we took him in. I brought him to the specialist yesterday and they were a little less concerned than the regular vet. Of course, it could still be the deadly diseases, but they are thinking that it is feline herpes (which basically is something that he could live with for 20 years and be just fine with occasional eye flare ups that would require drops or creams).
So we’re giving Wingnut lots of extra love these days, even though some of that love involves putting drops in his eyes 3 times a day which he hates. Please think some good thoughts for him and hope that we figure this out soon and that it’s not anything serious.
I’ve been meaning to post about this for some time, but we’ve been so busy that I seem to have found myself in some sort of funk. We’re swamped between Cook Local, our jobs, the house, marathon training and the cats. Don’t worry, we’re fine, but things like personal blogging are falling a bit to the wayside these days.
But, since I have a little bit of time this sunny Friday, and I need to focus on something other than work for a few, here are some things that we’ve been doing around the house.
We planted primroses on either side of the front door. Some day we’ll actually remove that bottle of Drano too.

Rosemary tree and catmint (anyone want a long wheeled cart?)
That’s a rosemary tree (a gift from the Sloan’s), and catmint, a plant that’s supposed to attract hummingbirds.

The salad table that John built
Next, we’ve got the salad table that John built. Currently, we’ve got butter lettuce and romaine in the center section, and 4 kale plants in the right section. We’ll be planting sunflower greens in the left section next week.

Baby Brussels sprouts
Last, we’ve got a tub of Brussels sprouts. It’s hard to believe that this wine barrel will eventually be home to huge club-like stalks of Brussels sprouts.
And just because I don’t think you can ever have too many pictures of cute cats on a Friday, here are a couple of Binky and Wingnut.

Wingnut sleeps oddly

What? We're not doing anything odd?
Not much interesting going on in this post. We’ve got a few ideas for Cook Local that we’re kicking around and since my blog uses the same publishing engine and hosting company as Cook Local, this is a good place to try things out.

Together in the window
So that you have something interesting to read, here’s a random life update.

Playing and grooming
good, but having a job in this climate = very good and we’re both very happy about that.
Ok, enough of an update to test things.
